- The photograph is in a book with a typed description in French: "Nous voici sur terre française. Le sanctuaire élevé sur l’emplacement de la maison de Sainte-Anne fut, après la guerre de Crimée, donné à la France en reconnaissance du concours qu’elle avait accordé à la Turquie. Ce sanctuaire, presque entièrement ruiné, était devenu un mosquée. De grands travaux de restauration, entrepris par le gouvernement français, l’ont rendu à la piété des fidèles. Dans la nef de droite, un escalier conduit à une crypte sous le sanctuaire. On y vénère le lieu de l’Immaculée Conception et de la naissance de la Sainte Vierge, et l’emplacement des tombeaux de sainte Anne et saint Joachim. C’est tout près de l’église de Sainte-Anne que se trouve la piscine probatique." The initials "B+P" are handwritten at the lower left of the illustration and "ir" is handwritten at the lower right.
