- Description
- The correspondance dated December 10 between Bartlett and Scribner involves a complaint about a "certain negro fellow, James or Jem Nokes," who was accused of stealing a yoke of oxen from another resident of Rockingham County, Abbot. On the back of this correspondance, Bartlett's notes for the trial dated December 14 found Nokes not guilty of the charges. Includes a steel engraving "from a painting by Trumbull" of Josiah Bartlett.
