[List of contents of the archives of the Marquês de Santa Cruz]
- Description
- Manuscript list of the contents of seven groups lettered A-G of documents dating from the late 15th century to the second half of the 18th century in the archives of the Marquês de Santa Cruz. The documents are not arranged alphabetically; they rather seem to be grouped in sections by type or subject and are arranged roughly chronologically and numbered within each section. Section A appears to list 21 early documents related to Santa Cruz and the Villa del Viso, from 1484 to 1556; Section B, with the heading Estado de Santa Cruz, lists 25 documents from 1574 to 1767; Section C, with the heading Estado de Santa Cruz, Valdepeñas (a villa sold by the Crown to the Marquês de Santa Cruz in 1575), lists 24 documents from 1563 to 1769; Section D appears to list 19 documents related to powers granted (facultades), from 1497 to 1588; Section E appears to list 15 documents related to the establishment by Don Álvaro de Bazan of mayorazgo, giving the right of succession to a specific parcel of property associated with a title of nobility to a single heir, based on male primogeniture, from 1497 to 1584; Section F appears to list 15 documents related to various titles of nobility, from 1499 to 1764; and Section G, with the heading Privilegios de Juro de la Casa de Santa Cruz, lists 21 documents related to privileges, from 1568 to 1636. The majority of the documents described are from the 16th century and related to Don Álvaro de Bazan, first Marquês de Santa Cruz. Many of the entries mention the covers or bindings of the documents. The manuscript is in five unbound quires.
