Jewish Holocaust Survivors, prints (volume 2 of 2)
- Description
- Black-and-white photographic prints which, according to Finkle's notes, is "an attempt to document how Survivors put their lives together after suffering from the horrors of the Holocaust." Prints feature portraits and candid photographs of families, food stores, a garment factory, a gathering at the statue of what is now the Horowitz-Wasserman Holocaust Memorial Plaza, home life, music, news articles, old family pictures, schools, tailor shops, and graphic historic images of the Holocaust. Images include Paul Salanon, MD (p. 1-8); Harry Bass (p. 9-18) and John Fox union leader amalgamated clothing works union and American Jewish labor committee (p. 19-88). Harvey Finkle (born March 28, 1934) is a self-taught documentary still photographer and photojournalist who has documented social, economic, cultural, and political issues across the city of Philadelphia, the United States, and the world. Finkle's work largely focuses on activism relating to historically underrepresented communities, including people living on low income, unhoused/unsheltered/houseless people/people experiencing homelessness, refugees, immigrants, and disabled people.
