The photograph is in a book. There is a printed description in French beneath the photograph. The printed description: "A quelques minutes de Ramleh, on remarque les ruines de la mosquée blanche (Djama-el-Abiahd). En longeant son enceinte abandonnée, le voyageur a devant lui une tour quadrangulaire. Un escalier de 136 marches éclairé par les fenêtres ogivales permettait, il y a quelques années encore, d'atteindre la plate-forme supérieure. Cette tour a-t-elle appartenu à une mosquée, à un caravansérail ou à une église? On ne sait, mais elle est bâtie sur un souterrain resté légendaire que vénèrent également les pèlerins chrétiens et les infidèles. Ceux-ci prétendent qu'on y aurait enseveli 40 compagnons de Mahomet : une tradition affirme, d'autre part, qu'on y déposa les restes des 40 martyrs chrétiens mort à Sébaste, en Arménie, victimes de la persécution."
