German Catholic prayer book dated 1774, written and decorated by Maria Theresia Laain, with devotions including morning and evening prayers; prayers to accompany the Mass; the seven Penitential Psalms (p. 77-93); litanies to the Holy Trinity (p. 147), the Name of Jesus (p. 167), Saint Joseph (p. 205), and All Saints (p. 232); prayers to saints including Mary, Joseph, Sebastian, Anthony of Padua, Apollonia, Francis, and Michael; and an index (Register, p. [276-281]). One leaf is detached (p. 233-234).

Layout: Written in 19-20 long lines; double borders ruled in hard point or impressed and traced with ink; quarto format.
Script: Written in German cursive, with headings and index in Fraktur and occasional names and the word Amen in roman or italic script (for example, p. 11-12, 232-234).
Decoration: Decorations in red, green, and yellow ink throughout; decorative ownership page with sun motif (p. iii); decorative title page (p. v); 2 full-page floral illustrations (p. iv, vi); occasional tailpiece decorations (for example, p. 20, 74, 152, 261); headings in red, green, and yellow throughout; index written in red ink (p. [276-281]). A 19th-century print of Saint Peter by C. Dittmarsch of Stuttgart is laid in.
Binding: Full morocco, borders and spine decorated in blind, including owner's name (Maria Theresia Laain) stamped in blind to one compartment of spine, marbled pastedowns and endpapers, headband loose and tailpiece loosening (Cadogan).
Origin: Written in Ehrenbreitstein (fortress in Koblenz, Germany), 1774 (p. iii).
