Pamphlet containing the Marriage Act of 1753, Anno Regni Georgii II. Regis Magnae Britanniae, Franciae, & Hiberniae, Vicesimo Sexto. At the Parliament begun and holden at Westminster, the Tenth Day of November, Anno Dom. 1747. "An Act for the better preventing of Clandestine Marriages" was the first statutory legislation in Britain and Wales to require a formal ceremony of marriage, with banns and a marriage license. Exemption was made for Marriages of the Royal Family, and of Quakers and Jews, and of Persons in Scotland, or beyond the Seas; London, England
